Overview

Hakujaden is the original Japanese title of the 1958 animated fantasy film often known in English as The Tale of the White Serpent. It is sometimes confused with other “Snow White” stories because of its fairy-tale themes and a princess-like heroine, but it is not the Disney Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The film is based on a Chinese legend and is notable as one of the first full-length color anime features produced in Japan.
