Jean-Paul Valley, also known as Azrael, is a complex character from the animated film 'Batman: Gotham Knight.' Raised by a secretive religious order, he was trained to be their avenging angel, Azrael. Initially portrayed as an antagonist to Batman, he eventually becomes an ally. Azrael struggles with his dual identity and the violent tendencies instilled in him by the Order of St. Dumas. His character arc explores themes of redemption and identity as he learns to balance his human side with his role as a vigilante, fighting for justice alongside Batman.
