Overview
Master Shen, also known as the Crane Hermit, is a martial arts master in Dragon Ball and the older brother/rival of Master Roshi. He is a stern, prideful, and often cruel fighter who trains assassins and students like Tenshinhan and Chiaotzu. As a major early antagonist, he opposes Goku and his allies through the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament and beyond. His role helps establish the series’ rivalry between the Turtle and Crane schools and the contrast between honorable and underhanded martial arts.
