Overview
The Witch of the Waste is a major antagonist in Howl's Moving Castle. She is a powerful but vain and aging sorceress who places a curse on Sophie, turning her into an old woman. Her actions drive much of the story’s conflict and force Sophie onto her journey. Although initially cruel and self-centered, she later becomes more vulnerable and diminished in power, revealing a more complex, human side to her character.
