Overview
Azrael is the name used by Jean-Paul Valley, a character in Batman: Knightfall. He is a trained assassin and warrior created and controlled by the secret Order of St. Dumas. After Batman is injured during Knightfall, Jean-Paul takes on the role of Batman, becoming a darker and more violent protector of Gotham. His character serves as both a temporary replacement for Batman and a cautionary figure about the dangers of unchecked justice and psychological conditioning.
